GMAIL IMAP

I’m probably the last gmail account on the block to have IMAP enabled. As many have assured me “It’s there Justine.. Go look!” — No, it wasn’t there and yes I can read. My original account from 04 was one of the first to be activated, but pretty sure that wasn’t useful at all.

I’ve finally set up my iPhone with IMAP and it’s definitely changed my life. If you haven’t yet set up your iPhone (or other devices) with gmail’s IMAP and need assistance, be sure to click here.

Also as a side note — Have you noticed the the ‘newer version’ vs ‘older version’ option that recently became available? In the ‘newer version’ gTalk will finally work in Safari. Again, it seems I’m the last one in line for the cool club..

That sucks , really , my Google apps support IMAP , but my Gmail account dose not , any how , now , Gtalk is fully supported with iChat , on Leopard

I’ve been using the new version of gmail for the past couple of weeks but I’m not really sure whats different. IMAP is a great new feature that I’m going to try out when i get a new phone. The iPhone has just come out in the UK but you have to buy it all other phones on the market come free with a reasonable contract.

Hey Markus, my treo asked first! haha, but no luck for it either. Someday maybe. We can dream! (It does have IMAP with gmail finally, though it took forever for them to enable it. It’s great though. I hardly ever check email on my desktop anymore.)

I don’t know if you’re still using Mailplane (I know I am), but if you are, don’t turn on the “new” version. It breaks. The guy behind Mailplane knows this and have promised an update soon.

Hi Justine. I felt like one of the first people to see the Gmail IMAP feature, but the last to see the newer version of Gmail.

Now that I have IMAP, I don’t ever want to go back to POP!

GMail over IMAP is indeed awesome. I hope that this becomes a standard (although long overdue) feature of the other free email providers (Hotmail and Yahoo, are you listening?). Unfortunately, I still don’t have the new version of GMail . . .

Gmail IMAP doesn’t work that great if you have a lot of labels. It really slows down the client you use. I don’t have an iPhone, but I would assume there is lots of lag on that as well.

Gmail’s labels are great for file storage, but just not for mail. Now if Gmail would add folders, I would go back to them. I could have folders like Work, Personal, Bookmarks, Files, etc. and then label my emails within those folders. That’s how it should work.
