“No friends for you! Come back 5 days!”

I know it shouldn’t be something to complain about and every time I do everyone says “Waaaaaaaaa we don’t care that you have too many friends on Facebook. Get a page!”

..and the way they say “Get a page” — in the 2.0 space it reminds me of the “get a room” phrase we used to yell at those people in the hall in between class in high school. What? No no no! No page! No room! Noo! Waaaaa.

The downfall of pages is that it isn’t actually a profile. It’s just that — a page. People come and go and the only real interaction you have with them is sending a mass message to their account. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I can’t write on their wall from my ‘page account’ or comment photos or do all the things that makes facebook amazing. Like giving gifts..

*sigh* I’m going to go try to find someone to cry to that might care. Chances are that won’t happen :)

Speaking of Facebook, did you know Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t really have a favorite treat?

The Best Birthday Ever!

Posted at 1:54 pm | 18 comments

So, yesterday was my birthday and because of the internet.. everyone found out quite quickly! Little did I know that djsteen was running around gathering up people on the internet and creating an amazing birthday video for me.

I just watched it a few minutes ago and I almost cried! It was so amazing! I can’t thank you guys enough for that tasty little treat.

Thanks to those who contributed!

djsteen, Amy, kemics, jannygirl, jez_igby, Joely, Shopping Trolley, Sarah, joshftv, Rob, Harry & Lauren, Leslie, heyitsRachel, Katie, Jackie, David, Angela, Brennan, James, Katherine, and Chris!!

Also, a big thanks to Geoff Smith for writing an amazing song to go with this video. When I heard the line “video camera tied to her head” I lol’ed for real.

More thanks to everyone who emailed, Facebooked (pokes, gifts, and wall posts!), MySpaced and twittered birthday wishes. Valleywag even sent me a nice bday wish. Also, another thanks to Shylie who sent me 24 gifts on facebook.

You are all amazing and I’m glad we’re all internet friends :)

I didn’t do anything crazy yesterday. Spent most of the day with my family, which was great. Then I met up with Desiree at an Art Gallery then hung out with ‘Skippy’ (aka Anthony). Good times!

After a wonderful week at SXSW interactive talking about the internet with everyone, getting beta invites, going to parties where people have their laptops sitting on the bar tops.. We slowly transitioned into music. There were no laptops, iPhones were scarce, and there was no talk of Mark Zuckerberg and Sarah Lacy.

Most people were instantly convinced that viddler was a band and any prominent person in tech I mentioned was a guitarist. I think many of us quickly forget that we aren’t the majority here. We are not mainstream.

Just remember, Ruby on Rails feels really good.

Twitter Color Wars

Posted at 2:12 am | 18 comments

It just takes one tweet to start an internet meme. You may have noticed a ton of twitter avatars rapidly changing today to various colors and team names — What is going on?!

Well, I believe it all started with Ze Frank discussing how a tug of war contest would work over the internet (or twitter). Then, being as creative as we all are here on twitter.. the ‘colors wars’ game begun shortly after.

** Correction from Ze — It started with [ this tweet ] and then spread with [ this one ]

What exactly is the war over or about? That’s yet to be determined.

The very green team seems to be in the lead with a pretty extensive cast list thus far. I was tempted to join them too.. but I figured if we all joined their team, then there really wouldn’t be any competition!

Actually.. wait, hold on.. What is the competition again? *shrug* Who knows. No time to think.. Must… jump… on.. bandwagon.

Feel free to join any of the wonderful color teams, but of course.. I’m a little biased towards the #FF1CAE Team ;)

If you do choose to join the wonderful spicy pink hexadecimal team and need an avatar template, you can find that [ here ]

Driving to the airport

Posted at 11:32 am | 20 comments

Ahhhh SXSW is over. Good bye! No more! Now, I can sleep for a few days to recover from traveling for the past month straight. I’ll be writing up a blog entry here soon about the entire experience.

It was great meeting everyone that I met these past few weeks and hopefully I’ll see you all again soon.

We’re on our way to the airport and I’m hoping that we actually make our flight on time. It’s not looking too good..

Alright, look for the my post-SXSW blog post here soon.

I just got a pink flipvideo! These things are seriously so amazing. We’ve been using them all week at SXSW and have been working out great.

Also, we have a ton of video footage that we’ve yet to edit.. but it’ll be up this week!

I’ve been having way too much fun asking people what their favorite treat is. I’ve also had people say “I can’t believe you talked to [ insert name here ] and that’s the only thing that you asked?!?!?!”

Yep it’s true. That’s all I asked and all I cared to ask!

Rock Band

Robert Scoble, Jay Adelson, FDave McClure, and David Spark + Rockband + revision3 = pure amazingness.

We were lucky enough to get a platinum pass for SXSW which includes 3 bags of shwag for interactive, film and music. Each one of these had so much stuff that we really didn’t know what to do with it. Here’s a few suggestions.
