Lars and the Real Girl

After iTunesing two previously slightly-epic-fail romantic comedy’s on the top 10 list this past week, I was reluctant to go for another… but “Lars and The Real Girl” sounded a little more intriguing than your average chick flick:

“Lars Lindstrom is an awkwardly shy young man in a small northern town who finally brings home the girl of his dreams to his brother and sister-in-law’s home. The only problem is that she’s not real - she’s a sex doll Lars ordered off the Internet.

But sex is not what Lars has in mind, but rather a deep, meaningful relationship. His sister-in-law is worried for him, his brother thinks he’s nuts, but eventually the entire town goes along with his delusion in support of this sweet natured boy that they’ve always loved.”

After watching the trailer, I decided to go for it. Definitely glad I did! It was creative, artistic and surprisingly a touching film. Before I give too much more away, I’d definitely recommended checking it out.

Does the doll come to life at the end and stab everybody?

Because that would be epic.

We actually accidently ordered this because of Comcast’s super slow remote/hd box response. Instead of fighting to get our money back we just sat back and watched. What a fun film especially at around 1h 30mins. Makes a great weekday night pick.

There was an eighties film called Mannequin. Similar but more of a male fantasy flick than a heart touching film. This all reminds of when I found out my “Real Girl” was actually made of plastic. I’ll check out this film. thanks for the tip.

Wow…I just watched this movie yesterday for the first time and it was so good (and strange)! Glad you liked it, though there were moments where that doll look freakin real.

This was easily one of my favorite movies so far this year. Who knew I could feel such emotion for a doll!

These are the RealDoll dot com sex dolls Stern ordered years back.
There is a whole culture, tons of sites, etc dedicated to this obsession.
I’m surprised it took this long for this movie.
I promised myself I wouldn’t make any jokes about sending in a photo of eJustine…

Saw the movie and have to say that it is amazing how one man can bring a town together in a twisted sort of way and yet after watching the movie I feel like I missed something.

Terrific film - possibly best of 2007.

Through most of the film I fought liking it. I could not accept that this was a good idea. I was there with the Brother. I was thinking this is just irresponsible movie making.
In the end, I think I even learned a few things about me.
I recommend this flick too.

I thought it was going to be a crazy film when I first saw the title, but when I saw the preview, it looks good. I’m hoping I can find it around here.
