I started off the day of riding on the 1 second film bus with the above QIK video. Feel free to watch that to get a quick un-edited sense of what was going on.

First off.. what was the main point of us driving around like crazy people talking to strangers on the street?

Well, the Collaboration Foundation (a new project by the 1 second film to build a non-profit online community for facilitating global collaboration and social-change) is up to win a $10,000 grant from http://ideablob.com and today is the last day to vote!

What better way to rally up a few votes than this:

We started our trek down to Hollywood and Highland by enticing random strangers on the street to vote and check out the 1 second film.

Granted, they had no idea what I was yelling out the window mostly because it was in a broken British accent.. Please, hold the Britney comments.

Interviewing Nirvan and answering questions from the live chat.

We finally made it down to Hollywood where we were parked in a red zone, in front of a fire hydrant and on a sign that said “No parking Wednesdays 6am to 6pm” — we broke all of those rules, but Batman looks on in awe as the Evangenitals rock out on top of the bus.

My dearest Brooke and I on top of the bus with a sign made from an amazing airbrush artist we met on the street.

He was awesome.. and I can’t remember what his myspace page was. The fact that he had a myspace page was quite impressive, but I guess it is 2008, eh?

Yes, Batman is indeed holding a flyer for the 1 second film.

…and yes again, that is in fact Superman who just became a producer with Cleopatra.

This was the impressive live streaming set up that we had! A Sony HD cam, wireless mic, Macbook Pro 17in and all streaming via a Sprint EVDO card. LA doesn’t have the greatest Sprint coverage so we were pretty lucky with what we were able to stream.

Anyways, there is still time left if you’re reading this Wednesday to help these guys out and vote! Just takes a few seconds.. and yes, you do have to register on the site to vote — but it’s for a good cause! GO HERE!

Thanks! and hopefully those who were watching all day enjoyed our random adventures. :)

It’s good to know that in possible diaster situations, I can remain calm. I was actually really freaked out. This was a few seconds after the earthquake had stopped.

This was my first earthquake and the only thing I could think to do was to twitter!! I watched as other tweets start showing up about it.

Oh, and I think your best bet is probably not to hop out onto the 5th floor balcony to see what’s going on. :P

It looks as though I snuck into ABC’s interview with Richard Branson. Oops? :)

I love the quote from Burt Rutan “That’s the only thing that’s really been missing … is the opportunity for the public to enjoy what these astronauts say is life changing.”

Dear Public, If you have an extra $200k I can borrow to go to space, it’d be much appreciated.

A new Virgin America plane — this is what we took to the Mojave. Yes it’s really called “My other ride’s a spaceship” - hilarious!

One half of the White Knight II

Richard Branson, Burt Rutan and team.

I’ll have my video up here in the next few days that Joe and I shot while we were there. In the mean time, feel free to check out a few more photos on flickr.

..and just for fun ;) This will most likely going to bail me out of jail as I try to sneak on board the first test launch.

Virgin Galactic Launch

Posted at 1:57 am | 40 comments

When you were a kid and you were asked what you wanted to be when you grew up.. what did you say? Well, I wanted to be an astronaut. It was up until around the 6th grade when I discovered the internet that my dream of going to space was soon left behind.

Flash back to last year — Desiree and I went to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida where we created this little video. It was here that I talked with a retired astronaut (who’s name I can’t remember) and told him how I really wanted to go to space. He quickly shot my dream down with, in short: “You’re too old, and it’s too late..”

I cried myself to sleep that night.

Flash forward to today — I’m heading to Mojave, CA to cover the first ever roll-out of the WhiteKnight II. It’s the first consumer spaceship by Virgin Galactic! What’s this mean? Well, if you have an extra $200,000 laying around, you can take this 2 1/2 hour trip into orbit.

If you’d like to watch some live video from tomorrow, follow ijustineqik on twitter to get updates when I’m streaming live. I’ll post the live feed here as well or you can just go to my QIK profile page to watch!

If there’s any questions you might like answered, let me know and I’ll see what I can do :)

Oh, and no.. I’m not really going to space tomorrow. Sadly!

Let’s just start this off by saying: No, I do not work for Apple and no they’ve never sponsored any of my content.. ever.

But, Apple.. if you’d like me to work for you and if you want to sponsor me, all you have to do is ask. Really, that’s it. Seriously. No joke.. Call me? Steve? Hey?

Anyways.. with that said, I do FINALLY have my very own 3G iPhone and I’m pretty excited. I’m actually still here at the store blogging on their computers :) Yay!!!

My new 3G iPhone If iJustine had kids...

..and just to add for those who keep continually questioning — I wasn’t able to get an iPhone during the launch because I was on vacation with my family. Thus, AT&T was nice enough to send me a demo to try out. Now, I’m sending it back to them. End scene.

Thanks Yahoo!

I came home tonight to a bunch or emails and comments letting me know I was on Yahoo for the “Out of iPhones” video. Thanks everyone! I definitely appreciate it, because I would have had no idea otherwise.

Now, if you’re here and wondering why I was calling for an iPhone on an iPhone — that one is not mine! It’s a demo from AT&T and as soon as I make it to a store that actually isn’t out of them, I’ll buy mine.

I did attempt today to get one, but by the time I got to the store, they only had the 8 gig models left. Tomorrow.. I will prevail. Hopefully. Wish me luck!

Figured this is pretty much old news, as everyone has been checking out the new Facebook redesign for awhile but in addition to the new profiles, yesterday at f8 (developers conference) they also announced the official launch of Facebook Connect.

Partnering with 24 other sites (like digg, twitter, CBS, College Humor and my bff loopt) you’ll now be able to annoy your friends even more so by sharing actions back to your newsfeed!!!! In addition, your data will travel with you. Your friends, your profile, and your login will all now be able to be used on these trusted sites if you wish.

Great. Now, if I could just add the rest of my friends on Facebook — I’d be happy. For those of you who aren’t aware, Facebook caps your friend limit at 5,000. I guess I can always go to the place for friends for that..

Old Facebook Old Facebook New Facebook New Facebook

Now onto the redesign. I’m sure a lot of people will initially switch to the old layout just as I did at first for comfort. There seems to be way too much room in the news feed which leaves peoples icons hanging off in the middle of the page.

What I did like about the old layout is how everything seemed to be lined up just so. Now, it’s kinda everywhere and it feels a bit disproportional.

As for the actual profile page, I think that’s definitely something I can quickly get used to. I love the filters on the wall posts most of all because you can sort through what you’ve posted and your friends have posted quickly.

I also love the tabs at the top that allow you to switch from the wall, to info, photos and boxes which contain all your ridiculous applications all in one nice little convenient spot. Please feed my fluff friend.

Oh, and whoever wrote the little status note I’m sure had this thought: “Oh crap.. twitter is what are you doing, so we need to be RIGHT NOW!!!”

Blah blah blah blah. Let’s be honest.. does anyone really want to read about what it looks like? Didn’t think so.. Go look for yourself or check out the above screen shots and let me know what you think about the new FB, yo :)

So, basically I can’t think of anything else to blog about other than the iPhone so I’ve been going back to find some old footage of a time when it wasn’t the only thing on my mind.

This is probably one of my more fun random adventures: making cotton candy with some random strangers in the back kitchen of a restaurant. I really wish that I could remember what this place was called — it’s in Cancun if anyone has been here and can remember :)

UPDATE: I just found out via a bunch of YouTube comments that in England and Northern Ireland they call cotton candy: Candy floss! :) Fun fact just in case you ever end up on Jepordy

MORE UPDATES:

German: Zuckerwatte
France: Barbe à papa (father’s beard)
Dutch: Suikerspin (sugar web)
Australia: Fairy Floss

And the restaurant I was at was called Harry’s — thanks to Brenda for that information! …and thanks to everyone else who left comments with what you guys call Cotton Candy where you live. That was pretty awesome :)

The Dark Knight

Posted at 12:30 am | 71 comments

I got two things accomplished this Saturday — Saw The Dark Knight and played 108 games of Marble Mash during the previews.

Here’s my suggestion if you plan to see The Dark Knight:

#1. Use the bathroom before entering the theater.

Here’s my short review:

Overall movie was great. Heath Ledger creeped me out. Christian Bale and I are getting married next week. Maggie Gyllenhaal is NOT Katie Holmes. Go see it.

Who else saw this and liked it?!
