Tabs make it so much more awesome because I can actually move around in peoples profiles. Nowadays they are so crammed with apps its just impossible to find the wall.

I wish I could be your friend on there. In the meantime you should get a facebook fan page instead.

The suck. Poorly designed and hard to navigate. I’d rather deal with applications of doom.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I’m really disappointed in the redesign. They could have done a lot more feature-wise (like commenting in the News Feed similar to FriendFeed) and added some better separation (giving updates/imported items its own tab and the Wall its own tab). I don’t like everything mashed into one wall, even if you can filter it. As far as updates/status messages go, you can’t really look at old ones that easily.

I was hoping for a lot more. :-/ Come on, Facebook.

As for the announcement at f8 I think it’s a cool idea. Should be awesome. But this new redesign still needs a heck of a lot of work before they do the official switch.

The new layout will definitely take some getting use to. And they changed the final layout again since the last preview. I noticed that the profile images have moved. (http://php-princess.net/2008/07/14/new-facebook-profile)

My favorite part are the tabs on top too. I love how they finally moved the “Info” part on it’s own page/tab, as well as the photos. The photos were never easy to find in the previous layout.

Anyhow, thank you for the review of the site. I need to catch up reading about the Friend Connect now. I wonder how this will interact with Google Friend Connect.

I like it, but there seems to be more clicking. Interface changes always make for grumpy users even if the design is good. And yes, that’s a boatload o messages. I thought my 81 unread was bad. LOL!

“Friendster” = still the best social networking website name — ever.

Why fix something that isn’t broken??? There was nothing wrong with the “old” facebook layout. I think facebook took a turn for the worst when they allowed developers to make apps packed full of ads and the ability to take your private information and have it emailed to 3rd party companies.

I like the tabs, and I really like the quick access to writing notes, uploading pics, etc., so I think it’s a step in the right direction in terms of making Facebook less MySpacey and keeping it clean like it used to be.
However, I do agree that the design is still a little funky, and that there are weird design inconsistencies, such as putting the menu on the right when you’re on your home page, but on the left when you’re on a profile page, and then dropping it all together when you’re on a pics page.
Overall though, definitely an improvement.

I have to admit I was skeptical and a tad ticked at first… but now that i’ve had time to play with it…. it’s actually pretty cool. i love the tabs and the way they keep the bulk of the apps off your front page. I do wish the app boxes could be minimized.. i made massive use of that on the old version. Overall, change is good so ima just roll with it ;o)

It has yet to be rolled out for me, so I have no opinion yet.

I’m not a fan of the redesign. It seems like a change for the worse. Though things are tabbed out, it all appears disorganized. I preferred the very neat integration of all the elements, rather than having them seperated out. It’s not the nice all-in-one-glance it once was.

@Andrew - I agree! If it doesn’t need fixed.. don’t fix it. There really wasn’t anything at all wrong with the old layout.

The best version though is the iPhone mobile site.

i really like the new facebook redesign. but then i always embrace change. good or bad, change is always better than the alternative… becoming stagnant and complacent (yuck!). good job facebook!

I think it’s better, I’ve being using it for like 2 days now by typing in http://www.new.facebook.com and it seems to be easier to change your picture(for those that dont know how ha) and seems like less of a struggle to change information, however I don’t like the fact that the feed is the default tab you see on someones profile whereas it should be Info tab.

The new design makes it more comfortable for me to use facebook. Having the tabs is great because all things are in one place. Before i had my profile page full of apps and it was hard to look at others people profile because of that.

Other thing: Why we don’t email facebook and tell them to let Justine have unlimited friends! I mean she is The Internet, she has unlimited friends!

I agree that the new facebook is a bit jumbled. It no longer has that slick look that I loved about facebook when I started using it. However, filtering the profile so that you no longer have to scroll through all of those pointless applications was a great idea. But I’ve decided to use this new facebook from now on because we will all have to get used to it eventually.

The homepage design is waaaay to wide and cluttered! I liked everything being close together on the old design. Loving the tabs, hating the clutter. Everything is too big and messy. I really love being able to edit stuff by just rolling over the pencil icon - very slick! Anyways, it needs work.

OH. I definitely agree that the iPhone site is by far the best version. Facebook just needs to streamline stuff, and make things smaller + closer together.

I’d really like a hybrid of the two versions. They should let us customize the look, like we could say we want the old homepage, the new profile design, etc. Or even select specific features we want.

I’m failing to like the new layout. I’m not saying isn’t any improvements, such as I can see the tabs being useful. The homepage does seem a bit of a pickle. Don’t really know. Just doesn’t seem complete. And that is an impressive inbox!

ummm.. by looking at your screen shot, it seems like they big-daddy facebook WEB is syncing in with the iPhone facebook app layout. I did read on the bbc about the new arrangement of facebook apps; I do think that will be a huge relief. Because, in the end, facebook does have a better design than the free-for-all myspace pages.
with that being said, I need to experience this my self, RIGHT NOW!

I love checking out new social group websites, and I just not that long registered for Face Book. The new design is deffinetly much cleaner than the old one, even though alot of work needs to be done before the official launch. Face Book is directing itself in the right direction to compete in todays market.

I hated it, then I liked it, then I hated it, and now I sorta like it. I’m not too fond of the home page but I like what they did with the profiles.

First of all, let me say I’m damn jealous you have an iPhone. Then again, I’m just too cheap to actually buy one and pay for my monthly phone bill. Anywho, about the FB redesign…

I hate it, and not because I’m used to the old format. Let’s start with the navigation bar. I miss the old drop down menus where you can easily go to ‘recently updated’ friends. Not a big fan of the homepage either. The right column is just clumped up together. And then the actual profile page? Yikes…it’s really just a mess, although the tabbed structure is better for people who have like 20 apps.
