Either the server is just obnoxious/obliious, in which case it’s the manager’s job to straighten him/her out, or they’ve been told to push the specials, in which case the manager should know that doing so obnoxiously is going to lose them customers.
My worst restaurant experience was at a bar in Vancouver where we all wen for a staff lunch. The server came over and told us that they were short-staffed and gave us our menus. Then she came back to take our drink orders -50 minutes later. I don’t care how busy you are, you can spare two minutes out of 50 to get me a cranberry juice.
