Next time you see Jack Black and “flip” him you’ll have to tell him how terrible the movie was.

This was a really crappy movie. I liked all these actors until I seen them in this.

BEST part was the commercials before the movie. HATED all of it. If you saw the trailor, you saw the best parts.

I actually liked the movie. It was pretty funny, but I do admit at times during the movie I was like what the hell. The retarded theme in the movie took it a little to far, and the gay thing also. Besides those 2 things it was a pretty good movie IMO.

Actually the last couple of funny movies I’ve seen have been “laughable” but absolutely bad. I was told Tropic Thunder was good (TRS dudes), but it wasn’t. I laughed at some jokes, but the build up was boring and the whole thing was pointless. I think the action is cool, but the whole story is just not a story.

I think maybe Ben Stiller meant the movie to be like this. The script lacks dialogues at all. I agree with you, though i think some parts were worth laughing at. And I don’t like Tom Cruise!

Ben Stiller’s movies are incredibly miss or near-miss.

You were definitely right about Tom Cruise though; I felt embarrassed for anyone transfixed by that dance scene. I couldn’t get out of the theatre fast enough when he started that.

Tropic Thunder was playing, but I was like… Ijustine twittered that it was bad.. lets see The House Bunny… Go see it, and tell people to watch it instead.

I haven’t seen this movie and i hadn’t planed to. I could tell it would be a terrible movie from the trailers. I feel sorry for anyone who has wasted there money on this piece of crap!

i’ve actually heard the same thing. i heard it had maybe like 1 or 2 funny parts, but the rest was crap.

I haven’t seen Tropic Thunder, but I know it can’t be worse than Pineapple Express.

I found it to be a great satirical movie and Robert Downey Jr. stole the show. It wasn’t perfect. Sometimes it ranged from unfunny to downright disgusting, but overall I thought it was a great show. I thought Mathew McConaughey and Tom Cruise both played well against their own stereotypical rolls.

The movie was intended to make fun of the self-importance and superficiality of Hollywood and think it did that well.

the whole showcase really, was Robert Downey Jr playing a black man and an australian.

the Tom Cruise cameo was a bit over the top. but thats the point of the movie, being over the top gags.

the original cut of the film was over 2 and a half hours long. so alot was cut out of the theatrical release.

Totally disagree with you, Tropic Thunder topped Pineapple Express as my favorite comedy of the year. When I wasn’t laughing, I was smiling the entire movie.
By the way: Tom Cruise did not play an agent, he was portraying a studio executive, Matthew McConaughey was the agent/manager.

I usually agree with you on a lot…… but I am gonna have go against you on this one. I loved this movie… I was cracking up through the whole thing. Maybe its just different tastes in comedy. The spoof movies like epic movie and meet the spartans are horrible to me and everyone I know. Yet they keep getting made which I guess there is a following out there.

I liked the movie. But everyone’s taste is different but Justine I don’t understand the complete HATE for the movie. Call me crazy but I’m not a fan of reading long winded movie reviews that use insult after insult to get said persons point across. Either you like it or you don’t, making fun of a person’s creation isn’t needed or fun to read.

I am glad to see iJustine fight back. Her battles with alcohol and how she overcame them with this internet stuff and the iPhone are truly a testimony to us all.

Her thoughts on this movie and her being completely honest and not telling one lie - not even a white one - shows us she has come a long way from back in our high school days.

I think you guys are so far off the target (pun intended). I was born & raised in Hollywood and this was a very accuate spoof / simulation in the vein of “the Larry Sanders Show”, etc. You guys are probably much younger than I am (33) and I think there is a disconnect there as well, in terms of what seems plausible to you and vis a versa.

I doont think this movie is the best in the world, nor do I think its THE funniest, but I truly enjoyed it and I had a nice time. Not everyone has to agree and like the same stuff (read: Apple Fanbois) and in no way am I saying you SHOULD like this movie or write a great review.

Im just saying, its a particular genere film that is usually VERY hard to pull off (3rd camera) and ususally finds limited appeal out of the four traditional blue / coast markets. That its done SO well is a testament to the quality of the actors and the director.

And who could NOT laugh at Downey Jr.? “Im’ a lead farmer, motherfucker!” Get Some, truly.

I thought Tropic Thunder was hilarious. My guess is that it depends on who you go with. Also try to to judge the movie so much, it was filmed to win an oscar, but rather to make people laugh.

Why all the hate for this movie? It’s a parody of everything that is wrong with Hollywood. It’s much better than Pineapple Express, which I thought was a complete waste. Tom Cruise’s portrayal of the rude, crude studio head was perfect.

I say go see it and have a good time.

I thought it was a decent movie and I _was_ one of the people laughing at the fake trailers.

That said, it was definitely a guys movie. I don’t think there was a single female character. Anybody who would watch Rambo just for the cheesyness would like this move.

I actually loved this movie. My friends and I were laughing the entire time. Definitely the funniest movie I’ve seen all summer. Until now, I haven’t talked to a single person that didn’t like it. But, hey, “to each his own.” I guess Tropic Thunder just isn’t your thing. On the other hand, I can’t wait to buy the DVD.

Hmmm…surprising. Very surprising. From watching the many videos you have created in the past - for both tastyblogsnack.com and MommyPackMyLunch.com - I would figure that you would pretty much get a kick out of the movie and how over-the-top and ridiculous it could be. I hope you weren’t trying to read more into the movie than there was…or worse yet, went into the movie with pre-conceived expectations. That would be the first mistake (a mistake I have made on TOO many occasions).

Personally, I loved it. I liked that it was over-the-top, that it was a pure satire of Hollywood and movie-making and prima donna actors. The acting seemed more like deliberate over-acting, and in that vein, the actors were spot-on. And yes, it was annoying, even bordering on not-so classy, at times, but really, I do think that was the point, and contributed to the “je ne sais quoi” that launched the movie into the #1 spot.

Again, one man’s trash is another one’s treasures, so meh, to each his/her own! =)

I saw this last week and tweeted my review of it. It his HORRIBLE. I would not call it the worst movie ever, as that title belongs to Mama Mia. I would say its probably the second worst movie of all time though. That is a couple hours of my life that unfortunately I will never get back. I see at least one movie every week, so I think from now on, I am going to start tweeting my review so that I can save other people the time and money when they consider seeing sucktacular movies like Tropic Thunder.

I have to disagree, Justine! Tropic Thunder is one of the funniest movies I think I’ve ever seen. The absolute absurdity of the movie is deliberate, and the whole point is to poke fun at the self-importance and ridiculousness of Hollywood. Robert Downey, Jr. was absolutely brilliant - despite it being a comic role, he did some serious acting and actually pulled off his role beautifully. I actually forgot it was him at several points; the mark of a great actor is to lose yourself in a role like that. Jack Black plays the off the wall characters like no one else, and Ben Stiller has the part of the narcissistic, out of touch moron down pat (no offense meant to Mr. Stiller!). The whole thing was satire, and I think it hit the mark.

I agree that Tom Cruise was uncomfortable to watch in this movie, but wasn’t that kind of the point? He was playing a producer / executive - he was supposed to be sleazy, and slimy, and loathe-worthy, and I think he nailed it. Matthew “Look at my Abs” McConaughey portrayed the mindless agent, hellbent on kissing the butt of his client, and he too perfected the part.

Nobody had to love the movie - it’s all about personal tastes. But you’ve got to look at what the point of the movie was about, and once you see that, I think it becomes easier to appreciate.

Wow. Quite the hatred. Personally I liked it. A lot. What I didn’t like about it was most of what Ben Stiller did in the movie after the first 20 minutes or so. Robert Downy Jr. was the show stealer and had some great lines. There’s a degree of piss taking in this film aimed at Hollywood and various actors including themselves, that in mind, it just made it funnier. I have to say though, I’m on the fence with Tom Cruises roll; comedy gold or a shudderingly embarrassing performance.

I also liked Pineapple Express, entertaining me pretty much equally to Tropic Thunder. I’d be interested to know what Ms. Justine thinks about that.

Movies are typically all about personal preference. I loved Tropic Thunder. I loved the humor, I loved the idea behind it and I loved the acting.

Haha it’s funny how people agreed saying it was crap and as you move down the page people think it’s totally the opposite. I have to agree justine, the trailer rocked. Well, I haven’t seen it so I can’t really comment but I plan to watch it!

This is why I dont pay to go to movies, so I choose to rent them before I buy to see if I like them or not.

I was beginning to wonder whether I had seen the same movie as all the viewers that were glorying this movie but to me, it was a complete and utter disaster. Nothing comical about it with the exception of Tom Cruise, who I thought was extremely funny, more so because we saw him in a role that was completely out of his element. Everything is was trash!

Why are you letting this ONE person influence your decision. This coming from the same person who made fun of a homeless man in mcdonalds and wouldn’t even buy him a cup of coffee at least to cover the expense for HER laughter. Don’t listen to her Tropic Thunder is the BOMB! THINK FOR YOURSELVES PEOPLE!!!! Be leaders, not followers.

Justine did you not know already that Ben Stiller is the worst actor around? I don’t go to any of his movies, he plays the same character, his self deprecation jokes are lame, his efforts at slapstick are forced, he’s just not funny overall.

I also twittered my review, I have an opinion, and I am free to spew my dislike for the insult I felt and that I talked someone into going with me, what a mistake that was. As people were leaving they said they couldn’t believe that they paid for it. The dance in the end clinched by negative feelings. I feel it was for teenyboppers who like silly.
Believe me, I am forewarned about Pineapple Express. I respect iJustine’s opinion, and you can see, it is hers. I was too chicken in my twit to say it was horrible. I did warn though.

I am shocked. As a woman in her early 20s I understand this movie isn’t in the same aesthetic as it is for me as 40 year old man (same age as Ben, Jack, et. al.).

But as someone who has dealt with managers, agents, and other show-biz types I guess I would have thought you’d have seen the satire of that industry better than the average moviegoer.

Certainly I would think “worst movie ever” isn’t warranted, even if you didn’t laugh once.

Depending on your preferred style of humor, this movie could be hilarious or not worth the time.

Let me start by saying I have never liked a Ben Stiller movie…ever.

This movie was much different. Robert DJ was excellent, Matthew Mc awesome, Nick N brilliant and Tom C as a big ‘ole hollywood pimp, come on, L Ron H is rolling in his grave, laughing his arse off.

Excellent commentary on the hollywood elite, sprinkled with some social commentary.

This movie is supposed to be stupid. It is a movie about bad moves, so the acting is supposed to be bad. A spoof on all of the war movies and how seriously they took themselves. Social commentary on Hollywood too. I guess you missed the point.

I thought the movie was great. Maybe you have to look at it from an atypical perspective. If you approach an atypical movie in a typical fashion, you’ll find yourself constantly disappointed.

Yeah I’m going to agree that Tropic Thunder was pretty bad, but there are worse movies, the jokes weren’t funny actually they were way too corny.

But lets also be honest here Pineapple Express and Step-Brothers were just as bad.

Pineapple Express:
Pineapple Express isn’t that stoner comedy that you are going to watch over and over, it fails at action (like the TRS guys pointed out) and the comedy was pretty bad too, James Franco can’t do comedies to save his life and Seth Rogan to me looked like he had to set up Franco for all his lines and someone like Jack Black would have been better for this part.

Step-Brothers:
Either I’m getting a lot older or Will Farrell moves are getting a lot more infantile. This movie was probably the dirtiest movie I’ve ever seen as far as it’s comedy style, it’s like the joke writers didn’t have any good clean jokes so they put a lot of mediocre dirty jokes hoping it would be funny. The acting by all the other characters other that John C. Reilly and Will Farrell was horrible, the story plot is too straightforward, you find yourself waiting for something funny to happen, overall too many bad jokes in a row.

I saw the movie too. I have to agree with you that it is possibly the worst movie of the summer. I always wonder why there has to be one stupid movie for every summer that comes and goes. In this case, the award goes to Tropic Thunder for Stupid Movie of Summer 2008.

I was Ben Stiller’s stand-in for his wardrobe fitting. I am going to see the movie today. So, naturally I will defend this movie. I wore the leather outfit you see Ben in. Apparently, Ben and I are the same size (althought they said I have a bigger chest then good ole Ben, eh eh eh). Imdb.com gave this movie a 7.9 user ratings. So, even though she’s very cute, Ijustine should chill out lol : )

This is one of the better movies out so far this year, but just like my boyhood treehouse, this ain’t for girls. YMMV, obviously. My sister’s seen the movie 3 times and still raves about it. Those used to movies including the obligatory sappy romantic side story or voluptuous vapid eye-candy will be deservedly disappointed.

To anyone who is saying this movie sucks… YOU DON’T GET IT. I think it must have confused you because the movie was put together almost perfectly and it wasn’t a FORMULA movie. You can probably only tolerate FORMULA movies because that’s all your little pea brain can process… the same shit that’s always being done. Rarely does a comedy do more than 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. This one is at like 83%. Absolutely the worst film I’ve ever seen, from every perspective. I felt cheated out of both time and money. Just terrible, yet it remains the top grossing film for the past three weeks… amazing and depressing.

Wow..i thought this movie was great. Robert Downey Jr was hilarious and I loved Jay Baruchel performance. Ben Stiller always slightly annoys me when he plays any type of character besides “normal guy” but he did a great job with this script and directing the film. One of the best comedies I have seen in a long time.

Now that I know that it is a parody, maybe that will be a redeeming quality. I will probably rent it just to see the fuss. : )

Maybe Hollywood is all that… and more. And Tom Cruise playing a slimeball scummihead sounds intriguing.

I just don’t think everybody has the same sense of humor…..My husband and I absolutely loved this movie. I thought it was very entertaining and well thought out with a lot of hidden truths. I thought the actors were great. Robert Downey Jr.’s was amazing at the characters that he played. And Tom Cruise, he was repulsive to look at and his dance was irritating, but that was the point! I knew what they were trying to portray in this movie. I totally get it. I could stop laughing. Obviously the people that really dislike this movie are thinking with a completely different part of their brain. It is like one of those puzzles…if you think with one side you see something completely different if you think with the other side. Anyway, just want to say I loved this movie and thank you to Ben Stiller for his crazy ingenious sense of humor. And maybe, just maybe some of you that hate this movie should try using your other side of your brain. You might enjoy life more.

No I don’t think it is funny to make fun of people with special needs. As I was watching the movie I did think that this could be taken in the wrong way. I still really loved the movie, I think it was hilarious and I don’t think that was the point to make fun of people with disablilities…they were making fun of Hollywood and how shallow it is.

I think this movie was one of the best comedies i’ve every seen in my entire life. they weren’t making FUN of anyone, they were playing a satiric role for all their characters. the movie was awesome.

I would have expected more from this group expecially stiller and jack black. I didn’t expect to see blood flowing from some soldiers head and another guy holding his guts, I have a son in the military and that kinda set the mood for me and I just couldn’t find any humor after that. You can’t have a comedy with graphic scenes like that from the get go. Anyone with any respect for human life wouldn’t appreciate this movie. Jack Black’s comedic genios was just about nonexistant through the whole film.
