Justine has obviously been paid to write this post. Now, as a geek I can’t blame her for jumping the opportunity to do a zero gravity flight. I would probably do the same. But it’s quite obvious little miss I <3 Apple has no use for Norton and the only reason she’s even mentioning them because she got paid.

haha, they didn’t pay me anything. They did cover the cost for the flight though which was awesome! There were a bunch of other bloggers and journalists there too. I’ll post my video footage too but they were faster to edit footage than I was

@Georg: I actually used to run their software on my PC’s (yes, I’ve had a few.. but please don’t tell Steve) so it was cool to see the upgrades.

Although I’m a mac guy, I do run Norton on my PC. And although it is bloated, Norton has saved me at least 6 times from attacking Viruses and worms. So any improvements, I will look forward too.

Not trying to be “that guy”, but more of your what you wrote in your post was promoting the product rather than describing the trip.

Now it’s your blog and you can of course post what the hell you like, but given you don’t use the product, and obviously have closer links to some tech companies than the ordinary guy or gal on the street (e.g. being iPhones), I’m curious as to how this relationship with Norton works.

Do they invite bloggers along and pay for their flights, just in the hope that the bloggers will give them a favorable post? What’s to stop some blogger going home and posting “hey I got a free trip from those suckers at Norton despite the fact their products stink” - how do the choose who they invite?

I’m genuinely interested here, as I’ve got no idea how these things work…

Thanks for giving me another reason to hate Norton/Symantec. Way to spend all that money on a stupid space flight rather than, you know, making software that actually works. If I could wave a wand and magically make any company disappear, it would be Symantec and their pile of dogshit products…..

I approved all of your comments and complaints about a “pay for post” but honestly.. they didn’t pay me to write this. I was quite impressed with their entire redevelopment of their software… but that’s beside the point Love it or hate.. they were kind enough to invite me to almost fulfill my dreams of being an astronaut lol

P.S. Don’t mind what other people say about “selling out.” You are a blogger, vlogger, lifecaster, etc, and people want to hear what you have to say. I have to say, I’m really surprised about what you said about Norton 2009. It’ll be interesting to say the least, since Norton isn’t that much fun at the moment.

Given that there have been a couple of comments on here defending the post, I want to make my own position clear on this, as I’m now not sure what I wrote earlier was read by others the way I intended it to be understood.

My *genuine* question was - and is - to found out how this kind of relationships works - I’m not part of this scene, and find it an interesting way for a company to get their product out there.

In the case of this blog, it has obviously worked for Norton as Justine has given them a positive write up. However I don’t see how they could stop another blogger going back home and doing completely the opposite, which is obviously not what they want.

Given that Justine has stated unequivocally that she has not been paid for this we can be sure that that’s the case - the question here for me is how do Norton 1) choose, and 2) have any control over who and what gets written about them as a result of these “free” events?

And before anyone gets too trigger happy or feels their knee starting to jerk, let me make it clear once again - this is NOT about Justine, nor is it trying to insinuate or imply anything. This is a genuine question about Norton and other companies who market in this way, from someone outside the business looking in.

As for Norton 2009, I say too little too late. The younger antivirus companies are already doing amazing things. But if you think it’s nice, then I say it’s worth a look.

I definitely would have Rolfed. Zero gravity is not for me, I like to stay nice and safe down here on earth. You must have loved it though, seeing as how you’re such an adventurous person. eJustine in zero g would have been a riot.

@IJustine: Wow what a experience that must have been! I can’t wait to hear more about this trip. Sounds like you had a chance to experience what most people can only dream to do! Most of your questions I would point you towards Norton’s official website to seek the answers to these questions rather then pointing them here. Also for someone that is spending so much time in making the post I would recommend that you either re-read your post to make sure that the grammar is correct.

I do find it rather odd that a Pro mac user would post about PC products but as IJustine stated, she has had other PC’s and other experiences with PC software (Norton) and perhaps a bad experience?

Yes Macs have the advantage of not having to worry about all those nasty Virus’s as much as the average PC folk. But don’t forget, the Majority of the market is PC. People that make Virus’s generally target the majority of the market. It’s really IMO a matter of time until the Mac world get’s too big and more people design virus’s and other general bad software to infect mac users. perhaps Mac software engineers and or Apple itself will get ahead of the game and maybe they have already.

Regardless sounds like it was a GREAT time!

The only flaw in the iPhone is that it can’t change to coverflow in a zero-g plane, because it would not detect the change in gravity!

Sorry Mike, but as you really try to point out, this is iJustine’s blog, not yours, so your opinion of other people’s comments is irrelevant. And to try and be smart about someone else’s grammar and in that same sentence screw up your own (your “either” needs an “or”, in case you can’t see it yourself)….well, enough said. Not that it’s any of your business, but English is my second language - how’s your grammar in your second language?

Unfortunately, not too many people will be able to afford to collect Norton’s prize. In the US, prize winnings are a taxable event. The grand prize has a retail value of $200,000. So unless you have $100,000 sitting around to pay the tax man, you can’t collect the grand prize even if you win! I would not be surprised if none of the 1st prize winners can afford to collect the grand prize.
