RAT CAT DOG!

Posted at 8:06 pm | 30 comments

While making a stop at the Apple Store on Chestnut street in San Francisco (yes, the same day that I made the Stitcher app video) I spotted this guy again and had to make a little video.

Some of you may have seen the twitpic that I sent out of him before too.

Anyways, it’s pretty awesome. Enjoy :)

iMovie 09 Editing Tip

Posted at 7:36 pm | 23 comments

Have been playing around a bit with new iMovie 09 and it’s not bad.. It still has the iMovie 08 editing feel that annoys me. Precision editor definitely helps but the command + t shortcut key that I use so often in iMovie 06 brings up a text box instead of splitting a a clip at the playhead.

You never realize how often you rely on a shortcut key until it’s gone.. *tear*

Anyways, I just wanted to post this little screen shot of iMovie trying to make everyone an editor! Funny stuff.

Oh, and the video I’m editing is here. It’s so bad I didn’t even want to post it on my blog :)

BUS RIDIN’ TO LEO’S

Posted at 12:14 pm | 23 comments

For as much as I travel and as often as I’m in San Francisco.. I’ve never taken muni or road the bus. Now, I’ve never had a car while I was living in SF and was always too stubborn to figure the muni and bus schedules. I’d always resort to walking really far, cabbing, renting a car, getting in cars with strangers, or BART — which I was forced to figure out early on (good thing).

Anyways, I’m en route to Leo Laporte’s to record a Macbreak Weekly episode. It’s been a long time since I’ve made it up to Petaluma and am excited to visit again. If you’re around today, feel free to watch live at 11am pacific on twit live!

Leo uses stickam to stream and if you’re in the chat, my SN is otherijustine because I don’t have access to the email address I used to get ijustine years ago. :) That’s really me, I promise. ..and stickam, if you’re reading, please give me my account back?

Oh, and if for some reason I’m not on the show.. that means I didn’t make it on my first real bus ride attempt.

The best iPhone apps

Posted at 3:04 am | 28 comments

Now, by saying that these are the best iPhone apps out all of them might be a little unfair, but let’s just say these are a few of the best ones I’ve been playing with recently. I’ve been getting a ton of email with requests for app reviews, so here you go friends!

Sally’s Salon - $0.99
I’ve avoided getting this application for so long. It’s been featured and on the top downloads for quite sometime but I kept thinking.. really? An application where I’m some woman running a salon??? What a terrible idea.. Yeah, completely wrong. I just spent 67.4% of today cutting, drying, and washing, little cartoon avatars hair. You’ve been warned — it’s so addicting!!

Ustream.tv - Free
The live streaming website ustream launched one of the first iPhone applications that will let you view live shows from their site. The only downfall is that you must be on a wifi connection to view. Other than that, way to go ustream!

Amateur Surgeon - $4.99
This popular [adult swim] flash based game now comes to the iPhone! I had never played it online, so I had no idea what to expect but turns out, it’s quite fun… that is if you can get past the fact that you ride around in a truck operating on random people in the street with a pizza cutter, stapler, car battery and a lighter. If you don’t want to spent the 5 bucks, you can play it for free online here :P You’re welcome!

Multi-Photo - $0.99
One of the annoying things about taking and sending photos on the iPhone (other than the lack of MMS) is that the email client only SENDS ONE PHOTO AT A TIME!! Well, the multi-photo app to the rescue! It acts as a separate mail client that lets you send several photos at once.

Fake SMS - $0.99
Well, this was bound to happen.. an application to fake text message from whoever you like. I chose Brad Pitt and Steve Jobs, but feel free to type another. You can have a very brief conversation with the “person” but they just end up saying they are working on a new project and that too many people are arround.. yes, double rr’s [ see above ] It uses a very simple AI engine to generate the fake conversation back to you.

If you want some more app reviews like this one this one, or this one, or maybe even this one. There will be more.. promise! I’m addicted!

They’ve found me!

Posted at 5:54 pm | 70 comments

I think some iPhone app developers might be coming to the Apple store to find me! Haha!

Anyways, was just making a fun little video in the Apple Store and the guy who made Stitcher recognized me. Funny thing is, I actually had this app installed :)

You can check it out if you want.. it’s a free personalized audio news. You can listen to techcrunch, cosmo, or CNN on your iPhone — stitcher! Get it here. Okay, have fun.. I’m going to go into hiding now. :P

A somewhat true story..

Jan 23

Got an amazing link today from Ashot about this application that will allow you to send Japanese emoji icons to anyone with an iPhone — without hacking it! You all know I won’t jailbreak my iPhone :)

Anyways, it’s really simple. This is all you need to do:

#1. Get this $0.99 app called frostyplace from the iTunes store [ link ]
#2. Play with the app for a minute to activate, click on a story, etc
#3. Go into you settings -> General > International > Keyboards > Japanese
#4. Click the Emoji option to on!
#5. Text anyone with an iPhone and they’ll get your icons!

Want to see more close up photos? Check this flickr set for more screen shots of all the icons.

** Update: If it doesn’t work the first time, continue playing with the app. Be sure to click on a few stories and click on the bottom two icons. Also, you must be on firmware 2.2 for this to currently work.

** IMPORTANT: If you wish to upgrade your phone to 2.2.1 firmware, please take note that you MUST install frostyplace FIRST as it will not work after the upgrade. They are currently working on a fix with the next version, so for the next 24 hours the application is free!

I have a lot of emails and comments on this thread confirming that the current alternative app is the Touch Dial Emoji which is $3.99. To use this application if you’ve already updated your firmware, do the following:

• Install Touch Dial Emoji version 1.2
• General settings -> Touch Dial -> Enable smiley icon to on
• Launch the application
• Go to settings -> General -> Keyboard -> International -> Keyboards -> Japanese -> enable emoji

Again, I have not tried the above tactic and have heard that there will be a frostyplace update soon if you can wait a few days without your emoji icons or updating your firmware. :) Best of luck and do feel free to continue to post comments about your findings.
