I love everything about my new macbook… except for iMovie 08… Yeah it kind of sucks

Not the first time that Apple has changed a widely used shortcut with no warning.

Yeah 08 def sucks. There are few things I’m liking a lot about 09 and I can’t even tell you if it’s in 08 because I honestly avoided using it since it came out.

@Michel If you have a new MacBook you should have iLife ‘09, shouldn’t you ?

@iJustine nice post. This iLife ‘09 suite definitely rocks. I’m having tons of fun on my iMac with iPhoto !

apple + t was the best shortcut ever!! now it’s gone forever.

I haven’t even messed with garageband yet! Lots more ilife 09 updates as i play with them Keep me posted on anything cool you find in it.

Am I the only one who thinks iMovie 08 is brilliant?

@zain did you edit before on anything else? I’ve found that a lot of people who are just starting out really liked iMovie 08. For me and other.. I think we’re soused to the typical time lines on After Effects, Final Cut Pro and Avid that iMovie 08 was just different and annoying. I’m trying to get over it with 09 though because it’s definitely a lot more stable. Previously, I couldn’t even shoot a video with iSight because it’d crash! So far so good with 09

I’m afraid to upgrade my iMac as I’m so used to the old iMovie. It’s crazy how the upgraded models suck worse then the outdated ones.

Ah well, who am I to complain? I got 4 Macs all with different stuff. Maybe it’s time I quit crying and just learn this Final Cut Pro sitting in front of my face.

You are aware you can download iMovie06 from Apple, aren’t you ???

not so sure i agree with ” you may achieve better results by individually adding only the best segments of your video” .. kind of like telling you to only color within the lines ….. so .. follow none of the tips .. and ignore all directions …. and be abstract … to avoid ” clone” like qualities to your work ….:)

Hey Justine, do I have to buy iMovie 09′ (or iLife 09′), or can I just upgrade it?

Please do not yell at me. I want to try out an apple machine so badly so I ordered a msi wind. I once even bought a g3 ibook from a guy at work and it was awesome but died a week lately. Out 100 dollars and experience of learning about macs I won’t even think about ilife though since it would kill the poor little intel atom chip.. I will keep trying to ebay a macbook so all stop bidding so high on them.. please, enough outbidding me already.

@Moitah bought it a few weeks too early… Yeah bummer. I should have waited but still…

I am with @Zain on this: What’s all the complaints n fuss about iMovie 08??
It delivered almost everything promised… (better support for extenral camera import would’ve been nice)

@iJustine - u say being used 2 Avid, Final Cut Pro, and After Effects, u are annoyed with the iMovie 08 timeline feel - but the whole concept of the iMovie 08 was to undermine the basic UI definitions of the video editing world.

It is by definition, less robust and accurate then prof. editing tools, in order to be able to achieve basic editing requirements A LOT FASTER than the prof. apps u mentioned can.

While u can do almost anything in Final Cut Pro - creating videos with “standard” editing features can be done a lot faster on the iMovie.

But seriously people. stop mourning the cmd+t shortcut - the fact this app is now more oriented to mouse navigation than to keyboard shortcuts, should give u all a clue as to which market iMovie 08 (and onwards) try to access (hint: it’s simple-users, not pros)

I think it’s weird that there’s nothing between iMovie 06 and Final Cut Pro. iMovie 08 and 09 is way to basic, and doesn’t have a good enough precision.
I loved iMovie 06. Easy to use and fast. iMovie 08 and 09 works better with family movies. At least that’s my opinion.

If you want to edit videos in iMovie 09 with a keyboard Shortcut, meaning just like cmd + t. There is a new shortcut that apple added that does the same thing…

CMD + Shift + S
