Macworld Workout 2009

Posted at 2:08 pm | 24 comments

It’s now become a tradition with Karen that every year.. we do a Macworld workout! This is ours from the show floor.

We also had two special guests join in! First was Liana Lehua who actually has a fitness show. She was a great addition to our workout and had some great moves for us to try. Second up, we had Kimberly at Lacie who got the workout tweet and came to join us :)

See you guys next year..

I was just looking through some of my photos that I took from the floor of CES and noticed that there was no shortage of HD TV’s running about. One of the booths I liked the most was Samsung’s. They had synchronized videos and epic music playing which really drew you in. Here’s a video to get a better idea:

Sharp had a pretty cool display as well. The baseballs kinda looked like eyes and were a little creepy.

Panasonic was pretty cool too except their little demo show was kind of annoying. I felt like I was watching a shamwow commercial… live.

Had the most amazing time at the Intel CES party tonight — the Counting Crows were there!!! They are one of my favorite bands as you can tell from my overly excited expression (that I seem to have had all day long.. see last entry).

This was really exciting because as some of you might know.. I used to be a band photographer in another life (pre-video blogging / iPhone days) so being able to shoot one of my all time favorite bands (until I go yelled at) up close was great.

Rockin’

Adam loves Intel.. you can see it in his eyes.

These photos were all shot with my Nikon D90. It worked great!

Surprise, surprise.. another photo of Adam Duritz. Last one, I promise! Will post more on flickr tomorrow. Must sleep for my 7am flight.

Ok, I know.. another entry about Smule, but I can’t help it. They are my favorite! :) This is an episode from Macbreak we shot while at Macworld.

Hanging at CES09

Posted at 3:37 pm | 18 comments

Well well well.. finally made it over to CES. This place is a mad house. If you’ve never been here, it’s definitely an extremely overwhelming experience. Booths are massive floor to ceiling structures inside of the convention center.

Anyways, right now I’m hanging out in the Intel booth. This is the view from the above deck. Shot with my D90 :)

Amaaaazzzing.

They have ice cream up here too! …more to come from CES!!!!

Ocarina fest!

Posted at 7:16 pm | 15 comments

With only 2 days left for Smule’s Ocarina contest, I figured I’d bring out this old footage us (phil, shaycarl, charlestrippy) playing the titanic theme song.

The ocarina is actually really easy to play, but for some reason getting it just right with 4 people was quite a challenge.

Anyways, the contest ends on the 10th and midnight so head over the actual youtube video here and rate it and leave us nice comments to help boost our chances of winning!

Oh… btw, if you want to download the Ocarina app for your iPhone it’s only 99 cents and can get it by following this wonderful link right here.

Roaming around Macworld

Posted at 3:36 am | 12 comments

This was my last day at Macworld and sadly I still didn’t get to make it around to all of the booths I wanted to see. But, I did get a great shot here in front of the iWork sign right after Karen and I did an amazing workout video with our laptops — stay tuned for that.. shortly :)

Awesome view of the Apple auditorium. They yelled at us for doing our work out.

A great shot that Brad from Griffin took of Karen and I on our iPhones.

I spotted Sinbad hanging around the Fastmac booth.. stole a pic!

These are my new favorite microphones — small, compact and great audio! The black one on the left is the eyeball which also doubles as a webcam (see it sticking out of the side?). The one on the right is the snowflake. They have a ton of other audio gear too — check it out here. You’ll be a fan too.

That’s it — got a bunch of fun interview and coverage that I did with Macbreak and will post those as soon as they are live! Now, off to CES. See ya in Vegas!

YouTube booth at Macworld

Posted at 11:06 pm | 12 comments

Ooooo la la! The Youtube booth at Macworld was pretty hopping. They were there promoting the new Picasa app just launched for Mac! It’s about time, google. Seriously. I know you were really busy these past few years..

Anyways, you can download the new Picasa app here! Check it out if you’d like. It’s a lot faster than iPhoto, that’s for sure.

WOW, A 17 INCH MACBOOK?!?!??! WHAT?

I thought maybe if I used caps I’d get more excited about it.. but I’m not. Anyways, here’s some photos. Looks just like the newer Macbook Pros that came out not too long ago — just a bit bigger.

As a side note, I do love mine! Even if I would have had the option for the 17 inch at the time, I would have stuck with the 15. For traveling, that extra weight and size makes a huge difference. Think about it!

Here’s the specs of the 17 inch Macbook Pro:
(I stole right from Apple’s website — Thanks Apple! *high five*)

• 17-inch LED-backlit display
• 2.66GHz or 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
• 6.6 pounds; 0.98 inch thin
• NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT discrete graphics
• NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics
• Three USB 2.0 ports
• FireWire 800 port
• ExpressCard/34 slot
• Built-in battery (up to 8 hours)
• Price starting at $2799

..and last but not least, Karen and I hanging out with them.

Macworld 2009 Keynote

Posted at 2:39 pm | 17 comments

As we all suspected, nothing that amazing was announced this year at the Steveless keynote. Sad, but true. So, what all was announced by replacement Steve — Phil Schiller?

Let’s briefly review the highlights:

• Buy music over 3G on your iPhone (previously only wifi)
• New 17in Macbook Pro ships the end of this month (ooooo!)
• Starting today, 8 million iTunes songs are DRM free, end of quarter 10 million
• iWork.com — like google docs, but not.
• Mac Box Set software suite includes: Leopard, iLife, and iWork for $169
• Keynote remote app for your iPhone
• Garage Band 09 a new “learn to play” section where you can download artist lessons.. and get this, learn to play their song for 4.99 a lesson!
• Updates to iMovie 09 - titles, transitions, effects, auto stabilization, video effects, etc
• iPhoto update - auto face detection, geotagging, and places (maps with photos). Built-in upload support for Facebook and Flickr.

..and that’s about the only things I found interesting. Was really hoping for copy and paste on the iPhone. Hrmmph.. Maybe next year? At least my dream of having Fall Out Boy teach me to play their hit songs can come true.. Oh, wait.
