I agree and think its sad twitter is turning into another ‘peoples magazine’ where you go to read about your fav celebs. Besides people like you are much more enjoyable to read about and watch =]

I bet you’re the only “celebrity” on twitter that actually dropped by and gave them cupcakes! Extra points for originality + actually texting yourself.

Now that the mass media and all of the major celebs are adopting Twitter, I think it is time for the geeks to move on to the next great thing, FriendFeed. What I hate about the whole thing is now that every show on TV is obsessed with Twitter, my mom (who is completely computer/internet illiterate) is asking me about it. Considering she still thinks msn is the internet, I don’t even want to try to explain Twitter to her. If her or any of my family members follow me on Twitter, I will immediately leave to my safe haven of FriendFeed.

As a general rule, when something reaches mass adoption like Twitter has, it is time for me and my fellow geeks to become early adopters on the next big thing, whatever that may be.

Btw. I do follow some celebrities. Nine Inch Nails for one, and an Aussie HipHop group called Bliss N Eso. But I follow them to find out things like tour and album release dates and what they’re working on. Not things like when Britney is going to buy milk or what the taxi driver did to his security cam footage after she left his taxi…

At least Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore do all their own tweets. Judging by the videos Ashton has on ustream and qik, they’re right into it too. Kudos to them for using it properly.

While I am definitely getting irritated with the “mainstream” appeal of Twitter these days, I don’t mind celebrities on Twitter, as long as they stay true to what its for: showing what’s going on in your part of the world. I actually followed both Demi and Ashton for a while bc I found it to be real, and a different side of them vs. the polished Hollywood version BUT what I don’t like is this recent thing b/w Ashton and CNN has made Twitter all about the ##’s and not the interaction. Interaction is a main reason I’m on Twitter, if it becomes another clogged PR machine, I’m outta here.

I to personally have seen a great influx in celerity use of twitter. Although it is a great “promoting tool” IJ is right and they should at least tweet themselves. I think thats why its called… twitter, and not agent-tweeter. I personally only started using twitter for ma geek connections anyways. You guys are the real celebs, and in my tweets you won’t be over shadowed by mega number”cruncher”munching celebs! But whatever floats your boat. MMMmm sandwiches. Gotta go!

You still pwn twitter in my opinion because celebs (aside from diddy and john mayer) don’t seem to give a crap about their fans like you do. You and other awesome tweeters actually do your own thing and are connected to your fans.

I agree with you Justine. I think that celebrities should tweet their on tweets, and not through some PR agent, if and only if, they want to be seen by regular online folk as genuinely interested in using social media. Shameless self-promotion is not cool in my book.

I’m also not down with folks in general getting twitter followers for the sake of getting twitter followers. Although it appears Ashton had a legit cause which I’m calling his “Million Follower March on Twitter.”

I think @aplusk and @mrskutcher do the twittering by themselves, and i think @ddlovato @mileycyrus, etc too, I mean they are 16, the can’t have people twittering for them! (btw someone has to teach miley how to tweet with text, all her tweets are from mobile web!! wtf??? i know right!).

I also think, that all the followers @ijustine has, are a lot more worthy than other celebrity, cause celebritites all had a fan base already built when they got to twitter, and @ijustine had to build it from scratch!!

Serously. Is it a grammar and spelling issue or perhaps a lack of creativity that makes someone pay a person to come up with a <140 character message? Or is it laziness? Well, after months and months and months of looking at Twitter and trying to decide whether or not to start twittering, I just signed up last night on a whim. It’s interesting, and I can see why it’s becoming big. That said, I don’t think there should be a mass exodus of geeks and nerds just because the celebs and that guy’s mom are interested in it. Just keep doing what you’re doing and don’t worry about the other folks.

Everyone is tweeting and talking about twitter now. There is not a day that goes by were I don’t here the word twitter on T.V.. In fact as I type this I just heard my local news plug their own twitter handle. Now they’re talking about Ashton passing 1 million followers. It’s crazy and it’s driving me crazy! Like @pcnerd37 my mom and sister are asking me about twitter. If they ever start up a twitter account, that’s it for me. I wish we could go back a year when nobody had even heard of twitter.

have to agree and it sucks for you to work on getting more followers and now it is taken over by a whole different group. It kinda sucks. Until people stop have fixation for celebs then it won’t change.

This is just what i was thinking the other day, I mean the whole reason i joined twitter which was like a year ago was because i heard it from you ijustine. I remember when you first told us about it and you used to post all the errors you would get on twitter…lol But now it’s like everywhere, twitter this, twitter that, tweet here, do you tweet? It’s like OMG this is nothing new people. We need to out tweet the celebs and ALL follow iJustine!! One of the very first twitter adopters!

Well personally, there aren’t many celebrities or celebrity wannabes that I follow or want to follow these days, either because of their ego, their attitude or their lack of Smarts. They also seem to take themselves way too seriously.
I won’t follow anybody who needs to use an assistant to Tweet, for God’s sake.

I like Justine because:
She’s beautiful.
She’s got talent.
She’s poised.
She’s intelligent.
She doesn’t break the law. (see above)
She doesn’t take herself too seriously.
She remembers who she is at heart and that means remembering where she came from.

Oh, by the way, a friend of a friend of mine was truckin’ through Justine’s neighborhood one night, doin’ his thing when he heard a muffled moan come from an apartment. Seeing that the door was open to the apartment, he went to close it. You can imagine his shock when a pale hand reached out and grabbed his arm. He was pulled violently into the apartment and greeted with this:

just this morning i unfollowed all of the celebrity tweeps i was following on twitter … the whole ashton thing this week is annoying, since he basically turned it into a popularity contest. what’s the point of having a million followers? but i am still following you!

I love twitter cause I can follow who ever I want. I could care less about who has the most followers (or holloywood celebs) and since twitter rocks I just don’t follow and never have to hear about there annoying lives. It rocks.

I think it’s cool… as long as it’s the actual celebrity posting most of the time. I don’t follow anyone who hires a ghost writer to post for them.

yea it’s nuts. a couple of months ago I noticed more and more celebrities.. Then i think p-diddy brang it to ellen’s attention.. and now the radio stations in ohio are all on twitter as well. Its crazy.. haha I also saw I think a sprint commercial.. saying so and so amount of people are texting to twitter.. 26 percent of the people watching this commercial don’t know what twitter even is. I thought it was funny.

They always use that SAME photo of Robert Scoble! Surely he’s been photographed more often than that ONE time!

Unfortunately I think some celebrities are simply using Twitter as a PR stunt and not to connect with their audience.

I definitely agree. What i’ve always liked about twitter is that it gives you a look at not only what people are doing but also what they find interesting. To have someone do that for you just defeats the purpose.

I personally don’t like to follow anyone who:
1. Doesn’t tweet themselves.
2. spams
3. is creepy…

It is ridiculous that a celebrity cannot tweet for themselves. Kind of ruins the point, doesn’t it…

A celebrity having their assistant twitter for them is like faking it in bed; it might seem innocent and well intentioned, but in the end no one wins.

These celebs will NEVER take over the net! Some have someone updating for them and the ones that update themselves will findthemselves filming a movie not being able to update for some time. They will never take over.

The thing is that these celebs don’t really interact with normal people, they don’t even follow normal people. People follow them because they are well known. I know a few people that joined twitter to only follow the gossip of the famous and ended up quitting twitter because they just don’t understand it, not to knock Ashton of his pedestal, but how many people of the 1,000,000 are still active users? I bet not that many. They probably saw him on CNN, Oprah, or some newscast about the highly publicized Ashton vs. CNN decided to join, didn’t understand twitter and said “What’s this tweet thing?” and quit. So now you got abandoned followers.

What good does that do but clutter the twittersphere. What good is it to have followers yet you don’t bother to interact with them? Defeats the whole purpose of using twitter don’t you thing? I’ve met many local twitters in my area and I’ve even met plenty of cool people in the computer industry that hooked me up with server time and web design assistance. Much better help than Ashton or any celebrity could of offered me with only celeb gossip.

I proud to say that I joined twitter before it was “cool to join” little by little I see more people I know joining. People that said twitter was stupid but now they joined because of celebrities. They also end up quitting because they don’t see the point and this is because they joined for the wrong reasons.

Celebs may have hollywood, but the rest of us OWN the net and that is something THEY cannot control.
