Joel Smith on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmpalm makes better phones that don’t break after a year. and good luck try running more than one app at once on your iphone. seriously this negative iphone fanboy coverage is getting kind of annoying
dizil on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmI never understood why in all the Cell Phone stores you can never try a phone before you you buy it?? I mean you can’t buy a car without driving it or buy pants with out trying them on? Why would i buy a phone. Funny Video. Though i am still waiting to see if you get the Nokia N97??
Stephen on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmYour reenactment videos are always fun to watch. Shame they didn’t let you try out the phone at the Sprint store. Not surprised Best Buy didn’t have a real one on display, they normally suck with displaying things.
Matt on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmyour iphone wouldnt been to happy shopping for palm pre’s
Scott Janousek on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmYour video title is incorrect. It should be titled “BestBuy poop” or “Sprint poop”, not Palm Pre Poop. You didn’t even try the device! lol. The user experience is quite compelling, and although it’s not an iPhone, Palm’s done an excellent job at putting together a device that attempts to compete with Apple. I’m not saying they’ve done it (well, not yet) … but it’s definately cool.
As for your failed consumer experience … yes, that sucks … not sure why you went to BestBuy. That’s the last place you want to go to pick up any mobile device … maybe a TV, but that’s about it! lol.
Have to agree that Sprint is not AT&T … but they try. Hopefully they gain some marketshare. There were 25 Pre’s at a store just down the street … by the time I got there EST they were down to 4 … I got #4 … check out took like 1 hour … their point of purchase system went down 3 times … not sure why. Sprint sucks? lol. But then again it was 9am West Coast, so maybe the system was loaded with Sprint employees on the west coast …
Anyways, I hope you make another video, that’s more fair to the hard work Palm put into their device, and not just call it”poop” because you’re in love with Steve Jobs, or Apple.
Don’t get me wrong, Apple is great, but I think your video was highly and unduly biased, especially since you didn’t even pick up a device to try.
All in all, I think the launch wasn’t as good as Apple, but the device is pretty neat for what it is (BTW, it’s plastic for a reason, lightweight and is more durable … keyboard and touchscreen are actually pretty cool once you start using them) …
People forget all the problems Apple had with activations on the first day of their iPhone launch … lol. These things never go smoothly. Consumers are demanding!

Lauren From Texas on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmYou’re hilarious. I love that you’re a little bit of a drama queen.

We (my husband and I) were with Sprint for forev, and our contract was coming to a close, and I was GOING to get a Palm Pre - but instead we didn’t renew our contract and went with AT&T and got iPhones in March - I can say that the last 3 months with my iPhone have been the most fulfilling of my life, and I can’t help but wonder - how do people live without them? Honestly? I don’t even need to look at a Palm Pre to know - I’ve found the best thing out there, and I’m never letting it go.
(Is this a romance, or a phone search? I think with iPhone, it could go either way.)
Keep up the hilarity, iJustine.
Kevin Crossman on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmYou are my new hero!
I am a former Palm fanboy who loved the PalmOS devices about five years ago, but use an iPhone now. But, I think like you, I wanted to give the Pre a fair shot. So, I went to the Sprint store this evening to check it out.
Feels like a cheap plastic toy.
Keyboard: pathetic and HORRIBLE to type on
Screen is too small to effectively use for all the touch interface gestures (and, no, I do not have big fingers).
Browsing the websites/blogs I own there were all kinds of weird characters and background images showing up randomly on my page (almost like the device had a virus or something).
What is the deal with the rounded corners that cut off parts of the screen? Stupid. Incredibly stupid.
I carry my cellphone in pants pocket, so I’d rather have slightly wider and slightly taller but a lot flatter than the Pre’s dimensions.
Sprints demo mode was awfully annoying. It stepped in front of what you were doing it seemed like once a minute.
Preferences were totally unintuitive.
The Pre blows.
julio on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmjustine you are very beautiful,i see this video…your hair is perfect, well for me you are the perfect girl,i love you so much, you are very sexy and very hot,i love you justine, send a message for me plz, cya.
David on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmThat was hilarious, especially the part where you’re laughing. Loves it!! And yeah, I am tempted to buy a Palm Pre as well. We shall see…but that doesn’t mean I’m cheatin’ on my iPhone 3G, HECK NO!
Anyway, I really like this video!
David on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmOh, and the irony, I guess, is that I’m on a tour bus on the highway (Turnpike) in Florida using a Sprint Aircard to post my comment.
Scott Janousek on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pm>Feels like a cheap plastic toy.
probably to keep price point down. I’ve seen this on a # of Korean, Chinese and other gadgets I have … US is no different.I also think they wanted to keep the device light … design sacrifices.
>Keyboard: pathetic and HORRIBLE to type on
I’ve had worse on mobile devices, and I’ve been in the biz for 5 years (as a mobile developer).![]()
>Screen is too small to effectively use for all the touch interface gestures
disagree. would be better with slightly screen size, but I like it it slides into something smaller than iPhone, actually.>What is the deal with the rounded corners that cut off parts of the >screen? Stupid. Incredibly stupid.
… or more like mad genius. I think it gives the user experience a more “comfortable feeling”, and fits the device shape.>I carry my cellphone in pants pocket, so I’d rather have slightly wider and >slightly taller but a lot flatter than the Pre’s dimensions.
What are you smoking? Pre is slim. Slimmer than iPhone … well, at least the ones on market as of this point.

>Sprints demo mode was awfully annoying. It stepped in front of what you >were doing it seemed like once a minute.
you mean the instore demo? not sure … the on device video intro is kind of cool … but annoying if you already know how to swipe, flick, etc … maybe it should just ask if you’ve owned an iPhone. lol.![]()
>Preferences were totally unintuitive.
agree.![]()
>The Pre blows.
disagree strongly. It’s no “iPhone killer” … but it’s given Palm a last chance to potentially stay in business (IMHO).
Derek on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmThe ‘laugh,’ was HILARIOUS!! So evil, demented… the teeth clicking was an added bonus along with the strange voice.
Rocky on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmi dont know how it is in LA, but the Little Sprint store in here in crap hole Myrtle Beach, SC had TWO working display models. And most places -Walmart, Radio Shack and Best Buy don’t really ever have real working models on the floor (BB now has working iPhone models b/c they now sell Apple products). I’ve had the Touch since it came out and love … Read Moreit. People like to forget that there was no App Store when iPhone debuted. And the 1st Gen iPhone pretty much sucked. The pre has its short comings -memory, 35,000 apps in an app store, and the keyboard takes some getting used to. The Pre in terms of use is where the iPhone is going to be….in a few days, weeks. And WebOS can catch up to the iPhone again w/ just a simple software update (video recording). I do like your videos iJ but this one was a bit unfair……oh and Pre has one thing iPhone doesnt….a faster 3G network and NOT with AT&T!
dwayneosx on Jun 6th 2009 at 9:17 pmBefore the iPhone in Canada I had the pearl (2 of them, issues w/ the first) and a Palm Treo 750. 2 out of three of those after 9 months had crapped out. I use mine for business use at work, something i need day to day. Since I had the iPhone, iv dropped it off a 28 foot ladder, left it out in the rain, and my friend dropped it in beer(nightmare). Needless to say it still works after a year! As for that iphone *killer* I think the iPhone has stood the test of time ;-V. lol. I didn’t think this video would be so touchy to most. ha
Later!
Kevin Crossman on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pm>What are you smoking? Pre is slim. Slimmer than iPhone …
Um, what are YOU smoking? The Pre may be a lot of things but thinner than the iPhone ain’t one of them.
Kyle on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmI really don’t think you should form any opinion until you actually get your hands on it. Yah, it sucks that they didn’t have it available in store to play around with right away, but maybe they’ll wise up in the upcoming week.
I do have to say though…that keyboard looks like crap. I think I’ll stick with my BlackBerry.

ijustine on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmI will get a pre to test it to be fair
you have 30 days to return it!
sindre on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmHello iJ. i haven’t tried the Palm Pre. but i would love to have one of them.
the best in the video : ithinks its because of the inventory!Keep the video’s coming
Scott Janousek on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmEric, Kevin you are right, and I was incorrect (about the depth dimension).
I have lots of mobile devices so you’ll have to forgive my oversight without doing a side by side comparison, or looking up the detailed specs …
Maybe I had the impression is slimmer (than iPhone) because it is smaller when in compact mode … obviously it is a bit “fatter” than iPhone, even 2G model.
I’ll have to do a real world test to figure out which is more noticeable carrying around, iPhone or Palm Pre (or, if they are both the same).
IanMarcias on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmWhy do we care what iJustine thinks?
Erica on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmI don’t understand why you would be getting a pre. Unless your contract was up with the iphone, why would you need 2 phones?
Scott Janousek on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmErica,
1.) I run a mobile development company. We develop for several devices and several platforms. Mobile is not entirely play for me, it’s business … and I am fairly confident consumers buying the Pre are going to be downloading apps from the Pre App Catalog … in fact, 3 of 4 people in line I asked said they were very interested in downloading apps, including games (many thanks to Apple for spurring the catalyst for mobile content consumption on SmartPhones).
![]()
2.) I’m a “device/gadget hound”/geek. Typically I have 2-3 devices on me at all times, sometimes more … if I’m giving a presentation on mobile development … or otherwise working on a project where I am targeting more than one device on a platform (e.g. developing apps for S60 on Nokia, etc).
Ben on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmJustine,
Great review! Loved it! As a professional in EMCOMM (emergency communications) for over 35yrs (pro & volunteer) and a user of cellular phones since the ’80s (when they had ‘training wheels’ on the ‘portables’); I can identify with your assessment. I have a Palm Centro (personal) on ATT, work provides me a Blackberry 8330 on Verizon and a plain Motorola i355 on Nextel (Sprint syst). (I cover the state so some services work better in areas than others.) I bought my wife an iPhone on ATT and she loves it. The only reason I didn’t go with an iPhone myself (and I have a Mac G5), is not being able to replace the battery and the lack of an SD mem card which I use on the Palm. As Apple improves the iPhone (this summer new version?), I may eventually trade up to the iPhone myself. I doubt my work will replace my BB with an iPhone. Alot of the providers have bundled their service around one particular product which is a pain in my work because I use all providers (the big three anyway) and would like to have the same devices (standardize accessories, chargers etc) on all three services. That said, on my personal contracts I have been with ATT and it’s predessor’s since the days of PacBell Cellular (cir 1985) and have pretty much favored there service here in California since. Keep up your entertaining reviews of tech!!
Michael on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmWho gives a fuck about the Palm Pre?!? That is not Sprint’s prize child. Sprint’s prize child to try to beat the iPhone is the Instinct. I have Instinct & I think it is awesome! So, I want you to go & review the Sprint Instinct because the Instinct is a major rival against the iPhone. So could you please do your review/opinion on the Sprint Instinct?
I love you! You are funny & Legendary!
Keep it up, girlfriend!
Your friend,
~Michael
AthosCYPRUSGreece on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmto be fair apple cripple all the functions on the iphone and tell people how they can and cannot use their iphone.. no working bluetooth and by that i means send recieve files.. sure there is email and will be mms on 3.0 but i want BLUETOOTH mms they are making it out to be something AMAZing WOW look we are going to add MMS WOOWWW cell phones have only had this feature for a million years.. its old news now and MMS costs.. MMS is only good for sending pics over distances rather then up close where you could easily send over bluetooth. i cant change my ringtone without paying forget changing the sms one and i cant have a simple theme for my iphone just a boring black background.. this iphone could be so much better and without JAILBREAK i would of thrown it away and got a nokia where they dont cripple everything and tell you how to use ur own phone… no flash on the camera 2MP camera what the f is that about?? sure u can just have a digital camera but im not one of those people who carry around a digi cam everywhere i rather have a good cam on my mobile phone!! the new iphone is probably going to be just as crap without jailbreak as the other two… but ok it does have some good features like skype which is usless without a front camera and app store and the many good aps and games that come with it… but apple stubornly refuse to open up the iphone to its full limits it could easily be the best phone on the market but its far from it with apple putting so many restrictions… without the dev team jailbreaking and unlocking the phone i doubt apple would of sold half the handsets they did.. and dev team gave them the idea of app store the very people they are trying to stop from making these jailbreak apps that provide even better apps then apple are to stupid to allow i mean what do they care if i want a different sms tone then the crap they put? or a theme?!?!?!?! and i cant even record videos witht he cam withotu jailbreak.. though of all its faults its a good phpone but i the new iphone is as usless as the others withotu jailbreak i shall go for a nokia :D… but their imacs seem to be very good espesially for video editing and voice recording unlike pc… somehow they went wrong with their cell phones
Johnny on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmI think it’s the first ever PHONE SOAP OPERA! Bravo!
Mario on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmWell I guess you don’t have to be blond and beautiful to get good service because the Sprint store by my house let me play with a working model on Thursday. Yes they had it behind the counter but they let me use it.
On Sat I was at the Sprint store and there was a line. I was the 3rd in line. Just because the line didn’t wrap around three blocks with all the nerds camping out doesnt mean this phone isnt great. So basically if there isn’t a huge line for miles and miles on end you’re going to crap all over this phone? wow. Fangirlism to the max!You see one thing you fail to mention on the Apple iphone is that (NOT including you) a lot of people that get the iPhone is ONLY based on the HYPE. Most of them talk shit about apple computers but praise the Hypephone. I know a lot of these people. Im not going to say the iphone isnt a solid device. Anything made by apple is bad ass but Im not giving into hype OR switching to ATT. But a lot of these people buy the iPhone for status and they dont even use the phone to it’s full potential because all they care about is “I have an iPhone’ (my sister)
Come on ijustine, you should not judge the phone itself simply because of your bad experience in two stores. Let me tell you that this phone is AWESOME. Whenever you get a chance to try it out or if you do buy it just because, lose the skeptisism and STOP being such a fangirl. This phone is awesome in it’s own right and much smaller and fits in your pocket quite well. Or shoot me a direct message in twitter @socalmario id be happy to drive up to LA and show you this awesome piece of technology!
Hilary on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmNot sure about the Palm Pre but I can say Sprint customer service is an epic fail. I’ll spare you the long and drawn out story. I’m very happy with at&t and my iphone now, I should have switched sooner.
Max on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmThat is totally unfair and unbiased. The fact that you have named everything that you publicly do on the internet IJustine is an obvious reference to Apple, even if you were never a worker there. You state that you are a Mac fanatic. That automatically biases the video. But I kept on watching. So you went to BestBuy. They almost never have working models, nor do most stores that are not the official dealer (i.e.: mall kiosks, 3rd party stores that are authorized resellers). Then you went to a Sprint store and commented on how the line was so small. Dan Hesse (the CEO of Sprint) had previously stated that they did not want super long lines so their customers could take full advantage of their Ready Now program (which is a great idea and can really enhance your experience with the device) so they got exactly what they wanted. I really can’t believe that you would just waltz right in their and cut the line. You see, people would like to try the phone before they buy the phone. That is how it works in retail. The fact that you came from BestBuy does not justify cutting in front of all the people who were smart enough not to go to BestBuy. Nor does the fact aht you are a so-called internet celebrity. I don’t know where you live, but if the store didn’t have enough inventory, they didn’t have enough inventory. So what? That isn’t Palm’s fault. It’s Sprint’s. I have used the phone, and I have used the Iphone, and I think both have good features, but I like the Pre better, and I’m sorry your Apple fanboyism (fangirlism) got in the way of your experience. It has many features that are better than the Iphone’s, including: background apps, a physical keyboard (no matter how small, a real keyboard is better than a software one in my book), Sprint’s 3G network (which is better than At&t’s), a USB adapter (instead of a proprietary connector (Iphone)), a 3 megapixel camera, the ability to sync all of your Facebook, Gmail, Exchange server, and presumably more to come, contacts and calendars. Oh, and it can do a lot of other things, including charge wirelessly, using the Touchstone Charging Dock. I didn’t realize that not being able to use a phone automatically makes it worse than another phone you have used. You can send me a message on Twitter @haubey to explain to me your reasoning. My Sprint store was fine down here in Florida and they helped me out a bunch. You hoped it was going to live up to the hype, and I bet you didn’t read any reviews for it, just was going to compare it to the Iphone. People say it is the Iphone killer, but it is not. Nothing is going to kill the Iphone, but that does not mean nothing is going to be better than the Iphone. And that Susan Boyle video is just rude and obnoxious and I can’t believe anyone would want to be a part of that.
Stephen on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmsooooo. You haven’t actually used it…but it’s crap?
You are the perfect Apple consumer. Shallow, good looking and superficial.

Justine, let’s bring home a winner with the Pens tomorrow!!!
Robert on Jun 7th 2009 at 9:17 pmSorry about your experience but when it comes down to it, Sprint gives a lot more bang for the buck. ATT charges for everything, ie GPS, Text, Voicedial…. Come on, voicedial? Why charge for that?

iMack on Jun 8th 2009 at 9:17 pmPalm Pre –> the “best of” two companies known for LOUSY customer support.
I used to use Palm PDAs. They were great until you needed customer support. So, I never bought a Treo, and I won’t be buying a Pre.
Bart on Jun 8th 2009 at 9:17 pmI remember some months ago that I watched the Palm Pre presentation because it was trending on twitter and everybody was talking about it. The presentation was promising until they….
popped out that keyboard.Anyone who makes a phone with a real keyboard doesn’t get it. I think it has to do with genes, different breed
Erin on Jun 9th 2009 at 9:17 pmMy only issue with this video is you were acting as if you were actually going to purchase the phone. It’s highly unlikely that you would sign a contract with a new wireless company and spend the money on a Pre that you have no interest in and are clearly not going to use.
HolyMoly on Jun 9th 2009 at 9:17 pmI can’t believe you would consider leaving the iPhone behind!! It is a part of your “image” that has gotten you to where you are! You are the “apple girl”… gosh! But yeah… def go for the iPhone 3Gs over the Pre… it’s a no-brainer.
Gavin FIlms on Jun 9th 2009 at 9:17 pmWhat SUCKS the most is that if you have a Free Incoming plan,
or a corporate discounted plan, then you have to downgrade your plan, or pay more, and cancel your free incoming plan to get the Palm Pre.That keeps me from getting one.
I can’t let my free incoming plan go!!!!!!!!
glenn on Jun 10th 2009 at 9:17 pmhi, i wait the Pre in France, may be in a few weeks, i guess we’ll have nice data & voice plans as for the Iphone.
to my experience the Iphone is a teenager toy, with millions of useless apps, too big and to slow, i’ve try it, and i have a touch.
i use a blackberry 8900, and i will try the Pre before buying it.
Justine, if you wanna come in France, sed me an email, i’m a nice and sexy guy ; )
George G on Jun 10th 2009 at 9:17 pmSigh. I should have known better. To expect ANY kind of unbiased ‘review’ was a mistake on my part. What is it with Apple fans anyway? Maybe this video was supposed to be sarcastic and not to be taken seriously, I don’t know. But, as a Pre owner, I have to say that the phone is a pretty decent device. The UI is fantastic, the phone has a good feel and that tiny keyboard, well that works surprisingly well. Battery life is not great, but, hey, I can pop it out and put another in there. And, like someone already said, iPhone was not the same device it is today when it first came out. Remember, you had NO app store, you were all bitching about copy/paste being left out (and you are only now getting it) and there were a slew of hardware issues. Forgot all of that did you?
Michael on Jun 12th 2009 at 9:17 pmthese cell phone companies are making millions why do they put out this cheap piece of Sh**
Jim H on Jun 15th 2009 at 9:17 pmHaahahaha, I love those vocal effects. Justine bashing Palm and Sprint.
Sprint is constantly losing customers all the time for bad service.
Yeah the Palm Pre was way overhyped before launch.
They need to try harder!
Andrey on Jun 15th 2009 at 9:17 pmAccording to cnet, the Palm Pre has a better user rating than the new iPhone and also has a very good editor rating (which you would rarely see from cnet raters). Maybe you should give the Pre a chance? I have the BlackBerry Storm (which I absolutely adore) so I don’t particularly have a preference of iPhone/Palm Pre.
Anyway, as always, great vid… superb editing. Keep up the great job!
palm pre on Sep 12th 2009 at 9:17 pmiphone is in their 3rd generation. this is the pre’s first. if you compare the pre to the first generation iphone, the pre would come out victorious.
