The Outer Banks rocks! I rode my bicycle from North Carolina to Maine in the summer of ‘03 and North Carolina was fantastic. I think it was my second favorite state (Virginia being my favorite). In both states, the people were incredible nice - as you say. However, I don’t ever recall seeing a “Teeter.” I did, however, see lots of mosquitoes.

Aww, Justine! I’m from NC and I LOVE Harris Teeter! It’s too bad that you don’t have any on the west coast, but I think the pros outweigh the cons in LA!

As far as I know there are no Harris Teeter stores in the South East either. Could be wrong, but I’ve just never seen one.

Harris Teeter IS great! Everyone here at work calls it either “The Teet” or “Hairy Teets” — great food, and great customer service! I’m originally from NJ, so when I moved down to VA I was glad to find a sweeeeeet grocery store!

@Sonya: Seriously “Hairy Teets”!! ROFL!! Oh my gosh, that is very cleverly funny. Loves it!

Just curious, do they serve more naturally grown fruits, veggies, and meats–like from local farms and stuff. If so, I’d definitely shop there!

There are Harris Teeters in Nashville where I live and I affectionally call them the “teet.” You’ve got to admit it’s pretty funny, but yes borderline offensive. I remember going to the one near my school during college and eating an entire meal via free samples.

You should definitely go back to the Outer Banks area in NC and to that great vacation house again. Maybe next year. Seems like a great place.

Haha! I just posted a mention of Harris Teeter and shot of the one in my neighorhood in my yesterday’s blog post! After the car wash shots is a shot of the store from one of my balcony views and the meal I made from the food I purchased there. Funny coincidence. Can’t wait to see your video now!

me and my brother use to get the same kick out of the gas station/mini marts we would see in Florida, Tom Thumb. . .thinking about it makes me laugh the way we would say it everytime we saw a sign and then give the obvious thumbs up : )

Harris Teeter is great! Just went there today actually for some veggies and used my VIC card! Justine, you made a comment about how nice the employees were. That’s how we all are in NC!

For those of you not familiar with the store, they’re like any other store. Most stores carry a very large wine and beer section, and their meat is very lean and tasty.

@David, the one here (Chapel Hill, NC) and others around the state tend to have a large free-range meat section. They also have a sizable organic produce section. When in season, I believe they try to order locally. Hope that helps!
