New iPhone 3GS

Posted at 6:59 pm | 37 comments

It’s been announced! The new iPhone 3GS (the “s” stands for speed) will be out June 19th so get ready everyone - copy & paste and video is here.

This video was shot at Pixel Corps today after our live show.

What else is new with the iPhone 3GS? Here are some highlights:

• Improved battery life up to 9 hours of internet surfing, 10 hours of video, 30 hours of audio, 12 hours of 2g talk-time, 5 hours of 3g talk-time.

• New camera! 3.0 megapixels, auto-focus, touch focus and video! API access for developers to create 3rd party applications.

• Camera switch lets you swap between photos and video mode 640×480 30FPS, VGA with audio, auto-focus, auto-white balance, auto-exposure, better low-light sensitivity as well, auto-macro — as close as 10cm away.

• Videos are stored in the library next to photos and are able to scrub and edit the footage.

• Share videos directly to YouTube, MobileMe, MMS, and email.

• Hold the home button for a second to access voice control interface. Make calls and play music.

• This is probably one of the coolest features for those who lose their iPhones all the time (like me) — Using mobileme, you’ll be able to send a text message to you phone, call it and ping it with sound to help you locate it. If that’s not enough, it’ll also give you GPS coordinates of where your phone is! If for some reason you can’t get to your phone quick enough and you don’t want someone to see what you’ve got in your phone (uh oh!) — there is an option to instant remote wipe all of the data so no one can start snooping on your secrets.

Yay for the new iPhone! Also another highlight of the keynote this morning is that the Macbooks got a facelift! The 13″ Macbook has now joined the Macbook Pro family:

• 13-inch. Starts at $1199 (upgraded with Firewire and an SD card)
• 15-inch. Starts at $1699
• 17-inch. Starts at $2499

Last, thanks to everyone who watched our live feed today!

Haha! Great little skit from Studio 8 trying to find the next Susan Boyle — I got a little cameo ;)

Carls Jr snack time

Posted at 2:17 pm | 30 comments

This was a fun little project to work on because you all know how much I love cheeseburgers.. so it was a perfect it :) A bunch of other youtubers were involved and you can check out their videos here!

Also, as a side note.. it may or may not have taken me more time to draw the Carls Jr logo on my little hat than to shoot this video. What do you think of my art skills?

Let me know your thoughts about this vid! I’d love to hear what you think because I’ve never really done this type of a commercial video before and I know it’s a fine line to walk here on the internet.

I shot so much footage at the MTV Movie Awards and once I started going through it.. none of it really would have made sense if I didn’t add some type of commentary. It’s a lot harder trying to cover an event by yourself without a camera person.. but hopefully this is okay. Let me know your thoughts! Other than the fact that this video is 8 minutes long.. probably one of my longest.

The highlight of the event was definitely the 360 Fashion Photos that they were shooting on the red carpet (see my previous blog entry for that).

My personal favorite highlight though would have to be meeting iCarly. I didn’t recognize her at first and was thrown off trying to figure out what to say to her. But, I remembered talking to you guys about what I would say to her if we ever did cross paths, and the most obvious question was “Why did you steal my name?” — We all know she didn’t.. but Nickelodeon did :) She was very sweet and seemed extremely nice in the 25 seconds that we chatted! I hope our i’s will meet again.

I was also very excited to meet Scott and Chet from Real World Brooklyn. I’ve NEVER watched Real World and this was the only season that I ever followed.. even though I didn’t watch the last few episodes, I really loved the dynamic of people they chose for this season. Follow Chet on twitter and follow Scott on twitter!

Like I mentioned before, covering this type of event with a handful of gadgets is never easy. I surprisingly traveled quite light (yes, for me.. this is light) with only my Nikon D90, Canon SD960, iPhone, Flip HD and my Joby Gorilla Pod. The hardest part is figuring out if you want a photo, a video, to live stream or not to live stream or if you want a photo that you can upload from your mobile. I need an event coverage intern!

You can check out more photos on my flickr page if you want! See you next event.

Today I got a preview of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards red carpet and a chance to check out their awesome Nikon powered 360 fashion rig. This is by far one of the coolest things ever! Tomorrow, all of the celebrities who are photographed can be found on the MTV Movie Awards site.

Depending on the 3G coverage and my iPhone’s battery life, I’ll try to qik — that’s live streaming from my iPhone, people (for those who don’t know). To get updates if I’m streaming live, follow @ijustineqik on twitter! I’ll be uploading mobile photos on flickr.

Here’s a great shot that Damon Webster got of me doing my 360 — be sure to check out his site for some great photos from today!

This is a longer behind the scenes video from the red carpet. They used 48 Nikon D700’s to make this entire process possible!

Well, what do you know.. that same jewelry store that I bought the first fail whale necklace at now has earrings and a new necklace! These ones aren’t quite as fancy as the other fail whale, but they are still pretty cool.

I got an extra pair of earrings for one of you :)

Guys, if you really want fail whale earrings, feel free to say so haha. Just @ijustine me on twitter with #gimmefailwhale

Blue fail!

Brown fail!

Oh and for those of you that might be living under a rock.. the fail whale is the error screen on twitter. If you’ve used twitter, then I’m sure you’ve seen him!

Ask iJ #11

Posted at 1:49 pm | 22 comments

It’s finally up! Ask iJ #11 — I’ve been talking about how I’ve been editing for the past week and you guys kept asking when it was launching. While it didn’t really take me a week to edit, I have been running around and traveling again so I didn’t get a chance to really finish it.

Anyways, thanks as always to Geoff Smith for the great theme song and the intro was down by @inss. If you want to make an intro, feel free and I might use it.. or a piece of it! No promises :)

Also, some of you probably don’t know that I upload a lot of unedited videos and vlogs to my otherijustine youtube channel so if you’re bored, feel free to check that out.
